This set of smaller oil paintings came out of the covid lockdowns. In hindsight it was a good exercise in learning to notice the environment around me rather than looking for something more exotic or grander.

In Canberra we had a time where the rule was to stay within 5km of home. As a landscape painter this felt very limiting at first, as I had ambitions to travel further afield – out to the desert or to the coast. However, once I just got on with it and started painting I began to enjoy the particular light and atmosphere of my home town.

These oil paintings were shown in my solo show Glimpse at Gaffa Gallery, Sydney in 2022.
